Brandon O’Brien (He/They) is a science fiction and fantasy writer, performance poet, teaching artist and game designer from Trinidad and Tobago. His poetry and fiction has been published in Uncanny Magazine, Strange Horizons, Fireside Magazine, Arsenika, Reckoning, and New Worlds, Old Ways: Speculative Tales from the Caribbean, among other outlets.

He is also a teaching artist and performing poet with The 2 Cents Movement, and the poetry editor of FIYAH: A Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction.

He is a mentee of Avery Alder’s Emerging Designers Mentorship program, and is currently working on his own tabletop RPG project, Soundclash, a game of music, magic, representing your neighbourhood, and sticking it to the man. You can find him on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram @therisingtithes.

“Part of why I value being a part of this is because many of us agree as members of the RPG community that games have the potential to put us in other people’s shoes, but there is still work to be done, in all walks of our lives, to value the perspectives of those who actually own those shoes and walk in them all the time.

Giving marginalised people the chance to be seen in the space lets them tell their own stories, or the stories that interest them, instead of just trusting other people to do so for us, and lets us know that there’s a level of trust in the stories we want to share, and how we want to share them, through the games we make and how we play them.”
